What is Cocktail Fiction?

Martini oneI coined the term Flash Fiction for the Cocktail Hour because at the end of the day I need to turn my brain off from the pressure of my job in high tech Competitive Intelligence.

There’s not always time to dive into a book or even a short story. But a 3-minute trip into another person’s mind, another life and another set of circumstances, can put every into perspective. Flash Fiction is a quick hit to the senses, to soothe the brain at the end of the day. It might even be an alternative to a martini or a shot of scotch.

Flash fiction is extremely short fiction. The generally-accepted length of a flash fiction piece is between one and two pages. Typically, a short-short story is about two and five pages, and a traditional short story is approximately five to fifteen pages, occasionally more.

Great term – cocktail fiction – love it! Your reason for writing “cocktail fiction”
is the reason I tend to write short blogs! People flit around on the internet so much that I don’t think they want to spend too much time on any one page.
Therefore, I try to keep it short and to the point. But, then again, I have been known to read some very good, not so brief blogs too!

Thanks. We do indeed flit around on the internet … but I agree, there are quite a few longer blog posts that are well worth the time.
